DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS MEDICAL CENTER:  NURSE PRACTITIONER
Battle Creek, MI

New position - to establish a pain management consultative clinic.  This outpatient position functions under the Chief, Primary Care Service.  The incumbent will serve as a consultant at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center and Grand Rapids Community Based Outpatient Clinic.  He/she will see and manage patients with chronic pain, co-manage chronic pain patients and assist with medical management and alternative management of pain.  There will be close collaboration with pain psychologist and addiction specialists.  The Pain Clinic will have structured prescribing and close monitoring of prescriptions usage.  Incumbent will improve opioid monitoring and documentation and assist with opioid titration and reduction.  Prefer previous experience working in a pain management clinic.

Description Fidelis Secure Care is an innovative leader in health management, care for the geriatric population in the Southwestern Michigan area.  As a Nurse Practitioner team member you will assist with staff development and implementation of medical management policy, protocol development, quality management, utilization management and review, and biomedical ethics.  Dedicated to improving the health and well-being of FSC members, this position collaborates with the FSC Medical Director, PCP and other health professionals to develop members' goals of care in all phases of long-term care.  This field-based role is a clinical resource, mentor and professional model for the nurse Field Care Managers and affiliates/contractors of FSC.

Requirements: 

  • Graduate of an accredited Geriatric (preferable), Adult or Family Practitioner program. 
  • Previous geriatric experience is preferred but not required.
  • Nurse Practitioner's License from the State of Michigan
  • Relevant experience in geriatric/long term care setting and/or community-based services for seniors is preferred
  • Ability to speak clearly and comfortably to use tact, discretion and sensitivity in dealing with patients/residents, facility staff and family members, including good interviewing and counseling skills, and the ability to explain medical problems and treatments in accurate and understandable lay language. 
  • Ability to work cooperative with physicians, other Health Service staff and providers
